Physical Motion

Drawing inspiration from the Bauhaus philosophy of integrating body and spirit in creative production and Matthew Barney’s Drawing Restraint series, which explores growth through constraint, my work examines the body as both a tool and a medium for artmaking. Through repetitive motion, I explore the full range of physical movement to create intricate, expressive compositions.

By documenting my exercise routines with paint, I transcribe movement onto canvas—cool tones representing push movements, warm tones for pull movements, and earthy, dark hues for leg exercises. This process highlights balance and resistance, deepening my creative engagement while expressing emotion and meaning. My work challenges the boundary between physical exercise and artmaking, emphasizing the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. I aim to inspire others to see their bodies as an artistic medium, fostering a holistic approach to creative expression.
