The Emperor’s New Clothes
Recently, an influential president removed presidential term limits and presented grandiose visions for a powerful country. Datong Li, a former editor of the China Youth Daily state newspaper, claimed that delegates know the amendment is wrong, but no one has the courage to speak out. I used a painting to reflect such a phenomenon. Through color and composition, I address the ironic side of the man in power. The two-dimensional color blocks, through grids and division, turn into a three-dimensional space. And colors shifted from realistic to saturated. Together it reflects the sickness and cruelty of current politics.
